Debbie's Journey

I’ve been addicted to alcohol for over 20 years and went to my first AA meeting back in 2004. Since then, I’ve had little bouts of sobriety here and there but started drinking again when I stopped going to AA. I stopped caring and eventually hit rock bottom and lost everything I had. I was evicted from my apartment, lost my job, lost my car, and lost my belongings.

That was the lowest I have ever been.

I was sleeping on a friend’s couch when a friend of mine told me about Graciously Broken, a faith-based rehab for women. I got sober there and it was a life-changing experience for me.

On December 6, 2016, I was saved and stayed at Graciously Broken for 10 months. I then went to Hiway 80 Rescue Mission for Women and Children which is where I currently reside. I’m proud to say that, as of October 21, 2018, I have been sober for 2 years which is the longest I’ve been sober in many years!

A friend of mine from the mission told me about Heartisans. Having done the program herself, she highly recommended it so I thought I would give it a try. I’m so glad I gave Heartisans a try because I really like it and the people there are really nice. I am very proud of myself and how far I’ve come because I never thought I could do it.

It hasn’t been an easy road, but thanks to the support of my friends and family, I never gave up!
