Jessica's Journey
I have battled with addiction since I was 15. I've been in and out of jail and treatment facilities. I've been to prison and I've been homeless. When I was 8 months pregnant with my son, Bentley, I was nearing a feeling of hopelessness, as I was still stuck in the throws of addiction.
BUT GOD...
Brought a distant cousin into my life who I had never even met—she and her husband wanted to help me, so they brought me to Henderson. A few days later, I went to the hospital and my son, Bentley (9 months), was born.
I began Son Shine Lighthouse Ministries on August 10, 2018.
I received my GED from Kilgore College on March 5, 2019 and started the job readiness program at Heartisans on March 18, 2019.
During my time at Heartisans, I obtained my first ever driver's license and will begin Kilgore College in the fall with plans to become a Substance Abuse Counselor. I also have plans to move into Buckner Family Pathways.
I have experienced God's love in a way I have never experienced before. Because of Heartisans, I now have self-confidence…I’ve never had that before.
I love Heartisans because it doesn't just stop here. They make sure we know they are here for us even after we're done with the program. What a blessing! This program and these women have impacted my life so much and I wouldn't trade this experience for anything.
