Malissa's Journey

I come from a very dark past. My family was never close and I didn’t have God in my life. I suffered from abuse and I made a lot of poor choices. I had low self-worth. Thinking things would get better if I was out of everybody’s way, I tried to isolate myself but that didn’t work either. I turned to drugs in order to cope with the abuse in my life. I have been to prison twice because of my addiction, but God really did a work in me the last time I was there that I can’t explain except by my actions now. He’s given me a new life and a new identity.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold all things have become new”
2 Coritinthians 5:17

I want to give a special thanks to Glenn Filla for approving my stay at Son Shine Lighthouse and for all the staff and volunteers that poured into me during my stay. I also want to thank my mentor, Ms. Debbie K, who supported me in countless ways, and the Heartisans Job Readiness Program, as well as the mentors and volunteers who have loved on me and prayed for me. It has given me the courage to step out into the life that GOD has planned for me.
